Chairman, National Convention Committee, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamako has said that over 6,000 delegates across six geopolitical zones of the country were expected in Abuja today for the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s first National Convention.
Addressing journalist at a pre- convention briefing in Abuja yesterday, Wamako said the convention, which is to commence today, had been preceded by the establishment of democratic governor structure at the grassroots and is expected that delegates will rectify the amended party’s constitution.
“It is our desire to depart from past experience for this exercise of rowdiness at the venues of such exercise”, he said.
Wamakko however expressed dismay at the stumbling blocks orchestrated by obviously unhappy group, who tried to disrupt the national convention.
In his words: “We are not unaware of the sinister plot by unscrupulous persons, working for entrenched interest, to scuttle this convention. We urged all our members to remain steadfast while calling on the security agencies to be vigilant in nipping in the bud any disturbances of peace.”
