A coalition of APC support groups in Kaduna State has endorsed former Senator Shehu Sani as the consensus candidate for the Kaduna Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The coalition, comprising youth groups, women’s associations, party mobilisers, grassroots structures, and community leaders from the seven local government areas in Kaduna Central, announced the endorsement during a stakeholders’ meeting in Kaduna.
According to the convener, Comrade Musa Ibrahim, the decision followed extensive consultations across the zone and was based on Sani’s track record, accessibility, and constituency projects during his 2015–2019 tenure in the National Assembly.
Ibrahim said Sani’s “visible achievements, courage, and people-oriented representation” distinguished him from other aspirants. He cited projects such as the construction and equipping of primary healthcare centres, educational initiatives, rural infrastructure development, and empowerment programmes for youths and women.
“Many residents still remember him for maintaining close contact with constituents and consistently speaking on issues affecting ordinary Nigerians,” Ibrahim said. “He remains the most experienced and credible candidate capable of uniting the party and delivering victory for the APC in 2027.”
The coalition also highlighted Sani’s history of human rights advocacy and grassroots mobilisation, describing him as a politician with a strong connection to the masses.
Another stakeholder, Hajiya Zainab Mohammed, said women and youth groups supported Sani because of his inclusive leadership style. She added that many beneficiaries of scholarships and social intervention programmes initiated during his tenure still identify with his approach.
“We believe he has the capacity to represent Kaduna Central effectively again. He is accessible, outspoken, and understands the needs of the people,” she said.
The coalition urged other aspirants and party leaders to prioritise unity and avoid actions capable of causing divisions ahead of the elections, noting that a consensus approach would strengthen the APC’s chances and ensure a smooth primary process.
Political observers believe the endorsement could boost Sani’s momentum within the APC following recent consultations among stakeholders across the state.
Although the APC has yet to officially commence its 2027 primary process, political activities and consultations have continued to intensify across Kaduna State as aspirants position themselves for key offices.
