Army urges Bauchi residents not to panic over movement of troops, equipment

Nigerian Army Armour School (NAAS), Bauchi has advised general public not to panic at the sight of unusual military troops movement, saying it is part of military officers’ training going on in the state.

The state Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Captain Danjuma Jonah Danjuma stated this, in a press statement made available to newsmen in Bauchi yesterday.

He said the members of the public would witness movement of troops and equipment as well as road blocks, but that they should not panic at the sight of troops.

Danjuma said NAAS is conducting a military exercise climaxing the training of officers, in fulfillment of their course requirements leading to their promotion, adding that the exercise would mainly be along Maiduguri and Ningi roads.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi state Police Command have arrested a suspected criminal that attempted to cart away sum of N2 million.

According to Police Public Relation Officer of Bauchi State Command, DSP Haruna Mohammed, “On the 31/07/2014, one Nasiru Haruna, aged 30 yrs., of Kofar Dumi, Bauchi, reported at GRA Police Station that, at about 12.15 a.m., he withdrew the sum of N 2,100, 000 from First Bank, Bauchi, put same in the boot of his Honda Civic car.

“On getting to the Fire Service Junction, Ahmadu Bello Way, he noticed a flapping sound from his tyre and stopped to check. All of a sudden, One John Nwaihim, riding a motor cycle, with one Eze Odu , now at large, who were trailing him, swung into action.

“The fleeing Eze opened the vehicle boot, took the money and made a move to run. The complainant grabbed him and he dropped the money and fled. His accomplice, John, was arrested with the motorcycle. John claims Eze gave him the bike to ride and also placed the nail studded slippers for the victim.

“Investigation is in progress and effort is on to apprehend the fleeing suspect”, Haruna further said.
