A Police officer, Bawa Ekoja with Benue state Police Command attached to ‘Operation Zenda’ was early yesterday morning shot dead by unknown gunmen in Makurdi, the state capital.
Disclosing this to Peoples Daily, vide a text message, the state’s Command Public Relations’ officer, SP Daniel Ezeala said the officer was shot around Bem Hotel, in Ankpa quarters, after he had just closed from night duty and was riding home on a motorcycle when the assailants, in an ash colored Toyota Camry, trailed and shot him at the back.
Ezeala said his corpse had been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Makurdi while investigation into his death has commenced, vowing that “we would not rest on our oars until the criminals are apprehended and made to face the wrath of the law”.
It could be noted that criminal as well as cult activities have been on the increase in Makurdi metropolises in recent weeks, with several assassinations and attacks even in beer parlors.
