A former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed concern over what he described as growing risks of election manipulation at collation centres, calling for urgent measures to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
Atiku made the remarks on Tuesday during a meeting with members of the Coalition for Democracy Movement, led by Jibril Shehu Mustapha, where discussions centred on strengthening electoral transparency and nationwide political coordination.
In a post on X following the meeting, the former presidential candidate disclosed that the group briefed him on its operational structure across the country and reiterated its commitment to supporting his political objectives, particularly in ensuring credible elections and protecting votes.
He commended the coalition for its consistency and dedication, assuring members that their efforts would be acknowledged.
According to him, their contributions form part of a broader push to defend democratic values in the country.
“I highlighted growing concerns about election manipulation, especially at collation centres, and stressed the need for effective countermeasures,” he stated.
Atiku added that the sacrifices made by supporters of the democratic process would not be forgotten, noting that history would recognise their role in sustaining Nigeria’s democracy.
