The South African women football team, the Bayana Bayana will play Super Falcons’ Group A opponents at the African Women Championship, Ivory Coast in a two legged international friendly match as part of preparations for the tournament in Namibia next month.

The Ivoirians have landed in South Africa and had their first training on Monday evening and will play the South Africans at the Moruleng Stadium in Rustenburg.

Bayana coach, Vera Pauw explained that Ivory Coast was the best opposition they could get because the Ivoirians were the ones who kicked out last year’s winner Equatorial Guinea from the qualifier stages.

“The reason why we picked Ivory Coast is because they denied the defending champions Equatorial Guinea a chance to come and defend their title. You cannot get a stronger opposition than that,” Pauw said.

The Ivorians are Group A with Nigeria, Zambia and Namibia while South Africa are in Group B alongside Ghana, Cameroon and Algeria.
