Banditry: Gov. Aliyu visits IGP, pledges sustained support to security agencies

Gov. Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in combating banditry and other criminal activities in the state.

This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Sokoto by Abubakar Bawa, Director-General of Media and Publicity, Government House.

According to the statement, the governor gave the assurance during a visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, at his office in Abuja.

Aliyu said his administration had consistently provided logistics and other support to security agencies since assuming office to enhance the protection of lives and property.

He disclosed that over 200 patrol vehicles had been procured and distributed to security agencies to strengthen efforts at curbing banditry, particularly in affected areas.

The governor emphasised that security remains a top priority under his 9-Point Smart Innovative Agenda, stressing the need for collaboration between the state government and security agencies.

He noted that despite ongoing security challenges, appreciable progress had been made, and urged security agencies to sustain the momentum.

Aliyu also highlighted the importance of effective intelligence gathering, information sharing, and stronger synergy among security agencies in tackling insecurity.

He commended former Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Musa, for his contributions to the fight against banditry, and urged the new Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan, to emulate his predecessor’s dedication.

The governor congratulated the IGP on his appointment and urged him to justify the confidence reposed in him.

In his response, Disu commended the governor for his sustained support to security agencies and assured him of continued collaboration with the Sokoto State Government to enhance security.

The IGP also expressed appreciation for the visit.
