Bandits kill several villagers, burn houses in Katsina communities
Bandits have reportedly killed several people in separate attacks on villages in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The attacks left several people dead and others injured, while several properties werr destroyed.
The resurgence of attacks despite a ceasefire earlier agreed with the bandits and local officials, has raised concerns among residents
Local sources said in the latest incident on Tuesday night, the armed assailants invaded Gidan Wawo and Gidan Sarkin Noma—twin settlements in Guga Ward—where they opened fire on residents, killing two people identified as Alhaji Sabi’u and Mubarak.
Earlier reports had indicated the death of Alhaji Sabiu Abdullahi, while additional casualties were later reported as more details emerged.
The attackers also set two houses ablaze and stole livestock, including sheep and goats, before fleeing.
Residents described the assault as intense, with prolonged gunfire that left significant destruction and panic in its wake.
In an attack on April 27, at the outskirts of Lamiɗo town in the same local government area, a man identified as Yakubu Kaku, popularly known as “Yanshuni,” was shot alongside another victim, Kabiru Lamiɗo.
Kaku died from the injuries he sustained in the attack, while Kabiru is currently receiving treatment. A third victim, Sani Lamiɗo, escaped unharmed.
The attackers had days area, shot dead seven people along the Guga–Turare road, and two others in another attack.
Also, in a separate clash with security operatives, a local security volunteer was injured while one bandit was killed near Kakumi.
Authorities have not issued any official statement on the latest incidents.
Meanwhile, residents have expressed concern over the frequency and scale of the attacks, calling for urgent intervention to restore peace and safety in the area.
