The Nigerian Army has intensified efforts to improve operational efficiency and institutional performance with the introduction of a standardised evaluation framework.
In a statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele said this was the focus of a sensitisation seminar organised by the Army Headquarters Department of Standards and Evaluation on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre and Suites, Asokoro, Abuja.
The event brought together key stakeholders to enhance understanding and implementation of structured performance assessment systems across Army formations and units.
Declaring the seminar open, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, represented by the Military Secretary (Army), Maj.-Gen. Everest Okoro, described the initiative as a major step toward strengthening institutional development.
He said it marked the department’s first major engagement since its establishment and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to professionalism and operational excellence.
He explained that the Department of Standards and Evaluation serves as the Army’s quality assurance arm, responsible for enforcing compliance with established benchmarks, conducting combat readiness assessments, and evaluating operational activities.
According to him, these processes are aimed at identifying strengths, addressing gaps, and improving overall performance.
In his remarks, the Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation (CASE), Maj.-Gen. Bobby Ugiagbe, said the seminar was designed to promote the systematic application of standards to strengthen discipline, professionalism, and operational effectiveness.
He added that it would also help institutionalise uniform evaluation practices across the Army.
The seminar underscores the Nigerian Army’s drive to promote accountability, precision, and continuous improvement through enhanced compliance systems and performance evaluation aligned with global best practices.
