Benue varsity to graduate 9,340 students

The Benue State University, BSU is to graduate a total of 9,340 students in various disciplines during its 14th and 15th convocation slated to hold on Saturday 17th January, 2015.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Charity Angya who disclosed this to newsmen yesterday during the Pre-convocation press conference held at the University Senate hall, gave the breakdown of graduates to include, bachelor degrees 7832, Postgraduate diplomas, 1,104, Masters degrees, 346 and Ph,Ds, 58.

She also intimated that at the convocation ceremony two prominent and illustrious sons of the State, Justice James Ogenyi Ogebe, rtd as well as late senator Joshua Atume Adaba would be conferred with honorary degrees while the Emir of Gummi, His Riyal Highness Dr. Lawal Hassan Gummi, Sarkin Mafara will be installed as a new chancellor of the institution.

The VC said the university has in the last four (4) years, improved tremendously on its infrastructural development in the completion of an ICT. complex, large prototype lecture halls on campuses, a generator house and renovation of dilapidated facilities, adding too that various programmers related to teaching, research and community engagement have been the target through improving on our delivery of teaching and learning.

“Since the last convocation, the university has taken delivery of two key donations of an ultra modern female hostel, a law faculty as well as donation of books from the visitor of the university Governor Gabriel Suswam”, Angya disclosed.

She also noted that through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, the university has funded several projects; divulging that 5 projects embarked upon the institution including the faculty of social sciences building, two twin lecture theaters, one on each wing of the campus, main library complex, MBA building and the center for entrepreneurship studies have reached advanced stage.

Lamenting on dwindling economic fortunes, she averred that the university would refocus energy on consultancy in various disciplines, maintaining that they will embark on training on governance, ethics and management to raise funds for the running of the institution.
