The Victim Support Fund (VSF) committee, yesterday donated food items to Boko Haram victims in Waru village, Apo District, Abuja.
The committee, which is chaired by Maj. Gen. T. Y. Danjuma, was set up by the federal government to identify sources and ways of raising sustainable funding to support victims of Boko Haram.
Speaking while distributing the items to Boko Haram victims from Gwoza, Adamawa state, Danjuma said he will ensure that the food items reach the real victims of terror.
“Our mandate is to reach out to the victims and help them where necessary. The occasion is a reminder of what terrorism has done to this country. We will continue to identify with the victims at all times.
“The federal government has not forgotten you. The committee will also go to the northeast and ascertain the person, communities, facilities and economic assets affected by Boko Haram terror activities”.
He noted that terrorism is a national problem, urging well-meaning Nigerians to support them.
“There are victims of terror among us. Some are in neighbouring countries. It is our responsibility to collectively help them.
“We should also work towards ensuring peace in the country”.
Earlier, the Director VSF, Sunday Ocheceh, said is was unfortunate that the victims suffer from the horror of Boko Haram activities.
“We are living in difficult times. We are pained by the sufferings of our brothers and sisters in the northeast. We will continue to do our best and provide the best support for the victims”.
Responding on behalf of the victims, Paul Amos, appealed to the government to help rescue their families who are caged in neighbouring countries.
He also pleaded for jobs to enable them earn a meaningful living.
