The National Examinations Council (NECO) on Tuesday officially released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, 52 days after the last written paper.
Announcing the results in Minna, Niger State, NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, revealed that candidates were examined in 16 subjects during the exercise.

A total of 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, including 51,823 males (53.43%) and 45,156 females (46.56%). Of these, 95,160 candidates eventually sat for the exams, comprising 50,785 males (53.36%) and 44,375 females (46.63%).

Breaking down performance, Wushishi disclosed that:

93,425 candidates sat for English Language, with 73,167 (78.32%) obtaining credit passes and above.

93,330 candidates sat for Mathematics, and 85,256 (91.35%) scored credit passes or higher.

A total of 68,166 candidates (71.63%) earned five credits and above including English and Mathematics, while 82,082 candidates (86.26%) secured five credits and above irrespective of English and Mathematics.

The Registrar noted a worrying increase in examination malpractice, with 9,016 candidates booked for various offenses, up 31.7% from the 6,160 cases recorded in 2024.

In response, NECO blacklisted five supervisors: two from the Federal Capital Territory, and one each from Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo for aiding malpractice. Additionally, four examination centres: two in Niger State, one in Yobe, and one in Kano were recommended for derecognition due to involvement in mass malpractice.

The 2025 SSCE External exams were conducted between November 26 and December 13, 2025, with marking completed from January 5 to January 21, 2026. The exams provide candidates seeking tertiary admission, both in Nigeria and abroad, an opportunity to improve their academic qualifications.

Wushishi described the result release as another milestone in NECO’s mission to provide credible assessments and reliable certification for Nigerian students. He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his ongoing support for the education sector.

Candidates can check their results via NECO’s official website using their examination registration numbers.

On outstanding registration fees, Wushishi stated that less than N2 billion is owed to NECO across the 36 states.
