In a heartwarming display of interfaith harmony, the Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry Church in Kaduna has celebrated World Tolerance Day 2024 by donating educational materials to Almajiri schools.
The initiative, led by Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru underscores the success of Governor Uba Sani’s religious unity strategy, which aims to foster peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims in Kaduna State.
The donation, which included Arabic reading slates, pens, ink, and other resources, is part of the church’s decade-long effort to support Islamic education and promote peace.
Pastor Buru emphasized the church’s commitment to bridging religious divides, stating, “This initiative is driven by our desire to promote peace and understanding among Muslims and Christians.”
Keen watchers of Governor Uba Sani’s administration said the governor has created an environment where gestures like these thrive, thanks to policies that emphasize inclusivity and mutual respect among Kaduna’s diverse communities. The governor has also repeatedly urged citizens to champion tolerance, and the church’s outreach to Muslim children exemplifies this vision.
Imam Ibrahim Musa of the Tsangaya School in Mashigi-Hayin Kogi, Kaduna, praised the initiative as a “crucial step toward building unity, peace, and understanding.” He also commended the church for previously honouring a student who memorized the entire Qur’an and donating blackboards to improve Almajiri education.
“This ongoing collaboration aligns with Kaduna governor’s broader efforts to strengthen community bonds through shared acts of goodwill”, said Nasir Dambatta, Senoor Special Assistant to the governor on print media, while answering questions from newsmen on the sidelines of the event.
The event also led to positive vibes about the generosity of Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, a Muslim woman who recently donated over 50 Bibles and relief materials to Christian widows, further cementing interfaith unity in the state.
World Tolerance Day, which was set aaide as an annual commemoration by the UN also served as a reminder of the transformative power of Governor Uba Sani’s policies, which continue to inspire initiatives that unite communities in a shared commitment to peace and progress, according to stakeholders.
