A Grade 1 Area court in Kado, Abuja, has sentenced an applicant, Okojie Bennett, 24, to seven months in prison for burglary.

Bennett, who resides at No 4, Ifeoluwa St, Trikana, Kaduna State, who was arraigned on a three-count charge of joint act, criminal trespass and theft , broke into a dry cleaners’ shop and stole a laptop

computer.

The Presiding Officer, Malam Abubakar Sadiq, who convicted Bennett after he pleaded guilty to the charges , gave him an option to pay a fine of N15, 000.

Prosecutor Simeon Ibrahim had told the court that Sadiqu Ibrahim of No 42, First Ave, FHA Lugbe. Airport Road, Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on July 18.

Ibrahim said that Bennett broke into the complainant’s shop, when he went to the Mosque for prayers.

He said Bennett, along with another, now at large, formed a criminal intention, broke into the shop and stole a DELL laptop computer valued at N130, 000 and a Nokia Lumia cell phone valued at N80, 000.

The prosecutor said that Bennett also stole 15 complete sets of already dry cleaned customer’s clothes.

He said the offence contravened Sections 79, 324 and 288 of the Penal code, respectively. (NAN)
