Turai Yar’Adua tasks youth on prayers for leaders

Former First Lady, Hajiya Turai Yar’Adua, has stressed the importance of prayers in determining the performance and qualities of leaders, calling on people to remain steadfast in their prayers for the leadership of the country.

She made the call when she received an award as Icon of Hope from the Youth Role Models and Development Initiative (YRMDI), in Abuja.

According to her, since leadership comes from God, it was only God that holds “our collective destiny as a people and our prayers will go a long way to determine the performance and the qualities of our leaders.”

While thanking the group for recognizing her even out of office, she said her commitment to women, children and youth through her foundation, Women and Youth Empowerment Foundation (WOYEF), remains resolute.

She therefor urged the group not to relent in their sensitization campaign and empowerment advocacy.

Earlier in his remarks, the project principal transformation strategist of the Initiative, Comrade Dominic Ogakwu Jnr, said the award was in recognition of her exemplary devotion to better the lot of women, children and youths.

He however called on her (Turai) to look at the whole of Nigeria as her constituency, and not just the north.

Ogawku, informed the former first lady that the YRMDI was ready to partner with her on youth issues, especially in leadership capacity building and mentoring, so as to groom the next generation of leaders in the country.
