The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice-Admiral Usman Jibrin, has said capacity building is a viral tool needed to reposition the Nigerian Navy as a potent maritime force capable of securing the maritime domain for viable economic activities.

Jibrin stated this yesterday in Abuja, while declaring open a workshop organized for senior naval officers with the theme: “Change Management”.

The Naval Chief said this first change workshop was organised for senior officers because change begins from the top since the younger officers look unto them to do the right thing and along the line imbibe the culture of doing the right thing always, adding that “no leader rises above the collective intellect of the group he leads”.

“Look at the present trend of the national insecurity that we are having in some parts of the country; Nigerian Navy operates more in the maritime sector, but because of the challenges the nation is facing, we have to do a training package that will enable our personnel to participate in land war fare or what is now referred to as internal security to provide a counter in insurgency in our counter revolutionary warfare efforts” he added.

In his welcome address, the Director of Nigerian Navy Transformation, Rear-Admiral Henry Babalola, said the workshop seeks to correct this ‘impossible’ mentality to a vibrant, positive and attainable ‘can do’ spirit.
