The Christoppel Blinden Mission (CBM) and partners, celebrated 600 million treatments of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) across 42 countries.

Speaking at the celebration venue held at Madobi town area of Jigawa state, the CBM director Dr Babar Qureshi, said the neglected diseases are many but the superior include onchocerciasis, lymphatic filariasis, schistosomiasis, soil transmitted helminthes and tracoma.

Dr Qureshe explained that, out of the 600 million treated cases, 200 million have been in Nigeria and celebrating in Jigawa state where CBM have quite long lasting and progressive history of the elimination of NTDs.

“We have a very long standing commitment with the government of Jigawa state with  which we’ve worked for many years in NTDs.”

According to him, CBM started the treatment of Trachoma disease in 23 Local Government Areas of (LGAs) of the state in 1996, adding that out of the 23 LGAs, 21 have nearly record free NTDs.

He then assured more commitments from CBM to Jigawa government for its effort toward fight against the diseases.

While making his remarks, the state NTDs and Eye Care Manager, Dr Abdulrahman Umar, commended CBM for choosing Jigawa to celebrate the milestone.
