The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening policies aimed at building a resilient economy capable of supporting the aspirations of Nigerians.
The CBN Deputy Governor for Corporate Services, Emem Usoro, made this known at the weekend in Ikot Akpadem, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, following her conferment with an honorary Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), Honoris Causa, at the combined 9th to 12th convocation ceremonies of Akwa Ibom State University.
Usoro stated that the apex bank had developed systems and implemented policies designed to reposition the nation’s economy to serve all segments of society.
She explained that key reforms include aligning monetary policies with the Federal Government’s fiscal measures, a move she said has contributed to exchange rate stability, improved macroeconomic conditions, boosted economic growth, and fostered inclusivity.
“At the Central Bank of Nigeria, we are working hard to build a resilient economy that will support your dreams and integrate you into a global economy full of immense opportunities,” she said.
“We have developed systems and implemented policies that have helped the country navigate economic challenges and are positioning the economy to better serve all segments of society.”
She added that in synergy with the Federal Government, the alignment of monetary and fiscal policies has already begun yielding results in stabilising the exchange rate and strengthening overall economic performance.
The Deputy Governor also announced that the CBN would support the university’s academic and research initiatives to enhance its impact.
She urged graduating students to remain curious and committed to lifelong learning, stressing the importance of continuous self-development and adaptability.
Usoro further encouraged female graduates not to be discouraged by societal or cultural barriers, noting that excellence is built on preparation, sacrifice, and perseverance.
Other recipients of honorary doctorate degrees at the ceremony included the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero (Doctor of Arts); Muhammadu Indimi (Doctor of Business Administration); Mrs Mina Tamuno Williams-Agbons (Doctor of Law); Mr Uwem Stephen Okoko, Mr Oliver Ebong, and Mr Elvis Effiong Osung (Doctor of Engineering); as well as Mr Inyang Udo Tobby (Doctor of Humane Letters).
The university said the honours were awarded in recognition of the recipients’ outstanding contributions to their respective fields and to national development.
