Children’s Day: Lagos pupils, Fashola appeal for release of Chibok girls

Date:

From Ayodele Samuel, Lagos

Pupils from various schools in Lagos, yesterday joined by the state governor, Babatunde Fashola appealed to the Boko Haram group to safely release the over 200 schools girls abducted in Chibok, Borno State since April 14, 2014.

Fashola made appeal while speaking at the state`s 2014 Children`s Day celebration held at the Police College ground, Ikeja which was devoid of its usual fanfare.

The pupils however, rather than wear their uniform, as it had been the custom of the day’s celebration, dressed in red T-shirts with the inscription: ‘Bring Back Our Friends alive’.

Fashola said that it was unfair for the group to continue to hold the girls captive for agitations they knew nothing about and for demands they could not meet.

He appealed passionately to the insurgents to engage adults to resolve whatever disagreements they had with anybody, urging them to consider the pleas of everyone on the abduction and free the girls.

Fashola advised children against trusting strangers and accepting gifts from people they did not know to be safe from kidnappers.
