Former Federal Minister of Information and Niger Delta Leader, Chief Edwin Clark yesterday urged President Goodluck Jonathan to step up his anti corruption campaign, by declaring a state of emergency on corruption in the country.
Clark who spoke at a distinguished guest lecture series organized by School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, in Lagos also called for the trial of the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
He said President Jonathan has being fighting corruption with courage, adding that, “If he was able to remove the oil subsidy and fight the cabal in the oil sector, for a man to prosecute the son of his Party’s former Chairman while in office , it shows the man is courageous .
“Jonathan needs to do more. He should immediately set up a special tribunal to try corrupt
criminals, no matter how highly placed they are, as it’s done in other countries were Prime Ministers, Past President who have been found corrupt are been charged and jailed if found guilty.
“Also he should declare state of emergency on corruption and I believe if these are done, corruption will reduce drastically,” Clark said.
Clark while calling for the trial of the suspended CBN governor said, “Today the government has come out with documents that showed us that Sanusi is a corrupt person, he should be tried and jailed if found guilty”.
