From Lawal Sa’idu Funtua, Katsina

Leader of the Jama’atu Izalatul Bid’ah Wa’iqamatus Sunna, Katsina State, Sheikh Yakubu Musa Hassan, has tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct elections in all parts of Nigeria.

Speaking with newsmen yesterday in Katsina, Hassan said the commission has no excuse to exclude any part of the country from the forthcoming general election in the country.

He stated “INEC has no reason not to conduct election in any part of Nigeria. Look at places like Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, where there is total war but they were able to successfully conduct elections all over the country”.

According to him, INEC and the government must make sure people in the troubled North-West region voted in the election, adding “we will not allow a situation where any section of the country will be disenfranchise”.

The Cleric also called on INEC to make sure that all eligible voters received their voter cards before the conduct of the elections, advising INEC to allow those without the permanent voter cards to use the temporary one to vote.

He similarly advised politicians making inflammatory statement with the aim of scuttling the election to retrace their steps, saying “Nigerians will not accept a rigged election and if the election is scuttled, we will know those to hold responsible”.

Hassan had attributed the insurgency and the chaos in the country to bad leadership, stressing that if people do not strive to elect good leaders, the chaos in the country could worsen and Nigerians would suffer for it.

He also condemned the on- going strike action by medical personnel and courts in the country, which he said was allowed to linger due to the insensitivity of the leadership at all levels of government “These leaders and their families doesn’t attend these hospitals. Even giving birth to their children is done abroad. So, in this situation, they don’t care whether hospitals here work or not. This insensitivity must change” he said.
