The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, yesterday commissioned Nigeria’s first Land Warfare Wargaming Centre at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) in Jaji, Kaduna State.
He described the facility as a significant enhancement to the nation’s military preparedness and training capacity.
Lt.-Gen. Shaibu stated that this state-of-the-art centre marks a major advancement in the Army’s efforts to strengthen operational planning, improve military education, and prepare officers for evolving security challenges.
He commended the College for consistently producing highly skilled middle-level officers who play critical roles in ongoing operations nationwide.
As an alumnus of the institution, the COAS also acknowledged the contributions of his predecessors who laid the groundwork for the Department of Land Warfare through key projects.
He emphasized that the new centre was necessary due to the increasing complexity of military operations and the limitations of the older TY Buratai Operations Centre.
According to him, modern warfare requires joint planning, predictive decision-making, and advanced simulations—needs that the new centre is designed to address.
