The collapse of Lafiya-Lamurde bridge in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State on the famous Yola/Gombe federal road has created untold hardship to motorists and commuters plighting the road.
Collapsing of the bridge which occurred on last Friday after a heavy downpour in the area is causing a serious headache to people in the state as they have been cut off from the remaining States in the North east and North west being the only link to this part of the country.
Most commercial vehicles traveling to Gombe,Bauchi,Borno,plateau,Abuja,KanoJigawa and even Kaduna States from Yola or Taraba state are now being faced with nightmare During his on the spot assessment visit, weekend ,Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who met thousands of commuters stranded by the Lafiya-Lamurde bridge lamented the unbearable hardship caused by the avoidable scenario.
Governor Fintiri appealed to the Federal Government to come to the rescue of populace plighting the road by awarding the reconstruction contract to another reputable firm so as to expedite work for a speedy completion of the road.
Fintiri observed that the Yola/Gombe road is a critical and important road network that touches on the economical part of people’s livelihood in the area.
The Governor who was accompanied by his Deputy Governor.Chief Crowther Seth and his chief of staff,Professor Maxwell Gidado urged people to bear with the situation as palliative measures will be put in place as a temporary solution to have a pass way before major reconstruction.
A motorist,Danliti Alaye said the road can be best describe as the life wire of the entire North East which must be fix immediately.
Alaye added that the communal effort put in place can only allow light vehicles to pass as articulated vehicles with heavy goods can’t be allowed for now.
He called on the constituted authorities concerned to as a matter of utmost importance and urgent intervene stressing that the C” Construction company handling the road is moving at a snail movement and without good working equipment at the site.
