Communities in Anambra urged NASS, Environment Ministry to intervene in erosion threat

Achina and some communities in Aguata Federal Constituency of Anambra state  are calling on the national assembly and federal ministry of environment  to intervene in  the erosion threat in their communities.

The constituents made their ordeal known to ministry and the National Assembly when they attended public hearing organized by the House Committee on Environment recently at the National Assembly.

Recalled that the member representing the constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Dom Okafor, in July, 2023 moved a motion about the menace of the erosion on the floor of the house. In pursuance of that, he invited delegates from the affected communities to the public hearing.

The communities tabled their ordeals to the House of Representatives when their delegates from their villages in Anambra and Abuja stormed National Assembly for that on Thursday, on invitation by their representative, Hon Dom Okafor, as the House Committee on Environment organised public hearing recently.

Speaking to journalists before attending the public hearing were Remigius Ezennwa, Tony Ezenwaka and Uzor Ezeonwuneme, the chairman of Achina community in Abuja the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the president general of Achina at home and the PRO of Ikenga community in the FCT respectively.
Complaining that erosion has caused untold hardships to Achina people, Ezennwa also confirmed that the communities that have been suffering for the same menace came on invitation by House Committee to that effect, adding that after the deliberation, they hope that they will be captured in 2025 budget to tackle the havoc.
