The Minister of Environment, Malam Balarabe Abbas Lawal, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MiU) on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria with the People’s Republic of China to adopt and accelerate climate action through innovative solutions, mutual cooperation, and shared expertise in combating environmental challenges.
Lawal made the disclosure when he participated in a High-Level Dialogue: “South-South Cooperation on Sustainable Development in Developing Countries”, at the invitation of the Chinese delegation in COP29 in Baku Azerbaijan.
He said, “This partnership underscores Nigeria’s commitment to #GreenNigeria and highlights the importance of South-South collaboration in achieving sustainable development for developing nations.
He said, “together, we can build a greener, more resilient future for all.
The minister noted that the significant step was taken towards addressing the global climate crisis.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Minister, Mr Zhao Yingmin commended the forum saying it will ensure shared commitment in tackling climate change.
He said extreme weather conditions call for collaboration, especially among most vulnerable.
