Corruption charges: Court admits 26 exhibits against Ogun ex-gov Daniel

An Abeokuta High Court sitting in Abeokuta; the Ogun State capital yesterday admitted 26 land title documents against the immediate past Governor of the State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

The former governor is facing a-38 count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) which borders on alleged criminal conversion of public fund and diversion of public land to personal use when he the Chief Executive of the state.

Daniel, in February this year failed in his bid to quash counts 1 -13 that borders on the illegal conversion of public land to personal use, both at the Ogun State High Court and at the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Judicial Division.

At the resumed hearing of the corruption charges against the former governor at the Abeokuta High Court yesterday, the anti-graft agency brought two officials of the state Bureau of Lands and Survey as witnesses and were led in evidence and cross examined by both the EFCC counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) and Taiwo Osipitan (SAN) who was the lead counsel for Daniel..

Daniel’s counsel, Taiwo Osipitan however sought for adjournment of the case, arguing that he needed some documents with which to confront the witnesses, which were not contained in the proof of evidence.

The case was adjourned till April 29 and May 30, 2014 by the Presiding Judge, Justice Olanrewaju Mabekoje for continuation of the hearing.
