The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, has charged officers of the command to maintain the highest level of professionalism and uphold the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force in the discharge of their duties.
CP Shaffa gave the charge on Saturday during a strategic meeting with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Vigilante and Community Relations Unit (VCRU) Commanders, and Heads of Departments (HODs), where he briefed them on the resolutions of the recently concluded Senior Officers’ Conference held with the Inspector-General of Police at the Force Headquarters.
The police commissioner warned officers against any conduct capable of tarnishing the image of the Force and urged them to remain committed to projecting a positive image of the police at all times.
He also directed senior officers to ensure effective supervision of their subordinates, strengthen community engagement, enhance inter-agency collaboration, and promote intelligence-led policing and investigations through robust cooperation.
Shaffa further conveyed the Inspector-General of Police’s directive on the arrest of vehicles operating without number plates or with concealed registration numbers, stressing the need for thorough investigations and diligent prosecution of offenders.
He also urged officers to be proactive in combating crime and to intensify operations against criminal hideouts, particularly during the rainy season when criminals often take advantage of environmental conditions to carry out unlawful activities.
The commissioner commended officers for their dedication to maintaining law and order and protecting lives and property across the state.
He, however, encouraged them to redouble their efforts while remaining civil, professional, and respectful in their interactions with members of the public.
He also emphasised strict adherence to human rights principles, including the protection of the rights of suspects under investigation, and reminded officers of the importance of discipline and compliance with the rules governing the use of firearms as stipulated in Force Order 237.
