The Nigerian Muslims Forum has expressed support for the recent call by the Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle, urging Nigerians to seek divine intervention alongside ongoing security efforts to address the country’s security challenges.

Speaking in Gusau on Sunday, the Forum’s Secretary-General, AbdulKadir Umar Na’amo, said that while military operations and other security measures remain essential, prayers and reliance on God are equally important in overcoming threats such as banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.

Na’amo noted that the complexity of Nigeria’s security situation requires both physical and spiritual approaches, describing prayer as a powerful tool for restoring lasting peace and stability.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s efforts in combating insecurity, stating that notable progress has been recorded in parts of the North-West and other regions through strengthened military operations, improved intelligence gathering, and increased support for security agencies.

According to him, the current administration inherited significant security challenges but has demonstrated commitment to addressing them.

He added that the relative peace being restored in some communities reflects the government’s determination to tackle criminal activities across the country.

The Forum also called on President Tinubu to convene national prayer sessions involving Christian and Muslim clerics, traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders from the six geopolitical zones.

It said such gatherings would unite Nigerians in seeking God’s guidance, protection, and intervention in the fight against insecurity.

Na’amo stressed that criminals who hide behind religious, ethnic, or political identities to perpetrate violence should not be associated with any faith.

He described those involved in killings, destruction of property, and acts of terror as enemies of humanity seeking to destabilise the country.

He further argued that despite years of kinetic and non-kinetic operations against insurgents, bandits, and other criminal groups, security efforts should continue to be complemented with prayers and moral support for security personnel.

“The only option for Nigerians is to continue supporting the government through prayers while our gallant troops intensify operations against criminal elements.

We believe Almighty God can guide our security forces to greater successes and frustrate those determined to undermine the peace and unity of the country,” he said.

The Forum described Matawalle’s call for divine intervention as timely and encouraging, saying it reflects the belief of many Nigerians that faith remains a vital pillar in overcoming national challenges.

It urged citizens, regardless of religious affiliation, to pray for the nation, provide security agencies with credible intelligence, and promote unity and peaceful coexistence.

Expressing optimism about the country’s future, the Forum said sustained military operations, improved community cooperation, effective governance, and national prayers would ultimately help Nigeria overcome its security challenges and achieve lasting peace.
