As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), the Joint Admission and Marticulation Board (JAMB), has launched delivery of medical equipments, to Muhammad Abdullahi Wase teaching hospital (MAWTH), under Yusuf Maitama Sule University, (YUMSUK), a Kano owned Institution.
Speaking while recieving the items, Kano state governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje noted that, his administration had been consistent in implementing policies and programmes, aimed at improving the health status of it’s citizens.
Dr Ganduje, who was represented by,Kano state commissioner of environment, Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso pointed out that, some of the initiatives include provision drugs and other health commodities to health facilities across the 44 Local Government areas, Completion and equipping of 2 mega hospitals, rehabilitation and upgrade of Murtala Mohd Specialist hospital to a world class facility, among others.
He highlighted that, the state had set up a contributory healthcare scheme, to ensure adequate financing of health care sector, as well as the introduction of various programs, that are meant to ensure adequate and regular supply of commodities, in health facilities and institutions.
“ These include the Free MNCHC, Free Malaria Program, Free HIV/AIDS program, Free TB, Leprosy program and free treatment of NTDs”
In his remarks,the registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Olarewaju Oloyede, explained that, the intervention of the board in the area of health care delivery, is to support government’s efforts, aimed at addressing the huge medical infrastructural gap.
Professor Oloyede, who was represented by the director national headquarters annex Kaduna, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulqadir Maska maintained that,the COVID-19 pandemic provided the much-needed impetus for countries around the globe, to do the needful by breaking barriers, and tapping into available opportunities.
Professor Ishaq highlighted that, in Nigeria, the COVID-19 pandemic served as a wake-up call, that stirred up consciousness to the need for adequately equipped public health institutions,where Jamb entered into a partnership with a grant agency in the united states, to equip 12 tertiary health institutions in Nigeria.
“The 12 benefitting health facilities drawn from the six geopolitical zones include Yusif Maitama Sule University teaching hospital,university of Ilorin teaching hospital,among others “
In his remarks,Vice chancellor, Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa,said Kano State government has advanced the construction of two (2) gigantic faculty buildings, at the main campus, in addition to many other developmental projects and programs.
He hinted that,governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had signed into law, the bill that establishes Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital (MAWTH) for the University’s MBBS program to thrive.
“ I must confess that I and my colleagues,Heads of State-owned Tertiary Institutions have never met his Excellency with demands in the name of the Institutions and he says no,”
Others who spoke at the occasion include Kano state commissioner of health, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa and director general Kano state hospitals management board, Dr. Nasir Alhassan Kabo.
Some of the items donated include incubators, oxygen machine, bed, parameters, ventilators, anesthetic machine, portable ultrasound machine, intensive care unit monitor, office table and ICU electric bed.
