Defence Minister denies resignation rumours

Date:

The Ministry of Defence has dismissed social media reports that General Christopher Musa (Rtd) plans to resign.

The minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, described the reports as “absolute falsehood” designed to mislead the public in a statement issued on Tuesday.

“The attention of the Office of the Honourable Minister of Defence has been drawn to a malicious and entirely fabricated rumour circulating across various online and social media platforms alleging that the Honourable Minister, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd) OFR, has expressed an intention to step down from his position,” Katung-Babatunde said.

“We wish to state unequivocally and in the strongest possible terms that these rumours are absolute falsehood borne out of complete mischief.”

She emphasised that the minister remains fully committed to his responsibilities and continues to focus on implementing the government’s defence and national security agenda.

“General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd) remains fully focused on his national security mandate, deeply committed to his duties, and completely dedicated to piloting the nation’s defence strategy with results already being seen,” she said.

The office urged Nigerians to disregard the reports, warning against the spread of unverified information online.

It also advised media organisations and social media users to verify information before publishing or sharing it.
