Ebola: Reps wants Adadevoh immortalized, compensated

The House of Representatives adopted a motion calling on the Federal Government to immortalise of late Dr. Stella Adadevoh by naming a medical institution after her.

The House also wanted the federal government to compensate her family, offer assistance to the training of her children up tertiary institution and provide employment opportunities to her relatives.

Also, the members of the lower chamber requested that the federal government should compensate the families of the late Dr. Adadevoh and other health workers, who died of the disease.

The resolution came following a motion titled “need to immortalize late Dr. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh and compensate the families of the Health Workers who died after contracting Ebola Virus Disease as raised during Tuesday’s plenary by Olajumoke Okoya Thomas (APC, Lagos State).

Debating the motion, Rep Okoya-Thomas noted that after conducting diagnosis on late Patrick Sawyer and suspecting that he had EVD, Dr. Adadevoh forcibly prevented him from leaving First Consultants Medical Centre in Lagos in order to prevent him from spreading the EVD to Nigerians.

The debate attracted much supportive contributions on the floor as most lawmakers concurred that the late Dr. Adadevoh deserved to be honoured. And to others like Rep. Emmanuel Jime (APC, Benue State), adequate funding of the Health Care sector should be made to protect medical practitioners.

A minute of silence was further observed in honour of the medical personnel who died after treating patients who had EVD.
