The Abuja chapter, of the Eggon Cultural and Development Association in conjunction with the Eggon Youth Movement, yesterday blamed governor Umar Tanko Al-makura for fueling the crisis rocking the region, describing it as a genocide meant to wipe out the Eggon communities in the state.
In a joint press briefing in Abuja, both the chairman of Eggon cultural and development association, Mr. Titus Malam Sule and Eggon Youth Movement president, Yahaya Suleiman Oshanduka condemned in strong terms the continuous killing of Eggon people in the North and South, saying the killings were primarily targeted at cleansing the ethnic community.
They said that the crisis, which has claimed over 250 Eggon people and displaced more than 100,000, is yet to be settled.
Oshanduka , who is the president of the movement, said the governor was once accused of importing mercenaries to wipe out Eggon people by a law maker in the state, adding that all these are geared towards achieving a political arm. “The governor is not bothered and is less concerned about the killings in the region”, he stated.
He explained that the Nasarawa state governor is not doing enough to settle the issue, adding that the way and manner government security, thugs and Fulani are being used to unleash terror and intimidate the Eggon people shows that there is something behind it.
According to him, the governor has lost grip of the state and have resorted to using terror as means to fight back in order to achieve his selfish arms.
Both Titus and Yahaya called on the federal government and the international community to quickly intervene in the matter, so as to avert future crisis that may generate into a full-fledged war in the state.
