Gombe United coach Austin Eguavoen and Dolphins goalkeeper and captain Sunday Rotimi have been named Manager and Player of the League Bloggers Awards (LBA) for the month of August respectively. The two posted impressive results with their teams in the ongoing season last month. Eguavoen edged out Kadiri Ikhana (Enyimba), Mohammed Baba Ganaru (Nasarawa United) and Stanley Eguma (Dolphins) for the manager’s award.
Gombe United, now coached by Eguavoen, got 12 points out of 15 in August including an away win at Bayelsa United. They also climbed out of the bottom four. Enyimba and Dolphins finished August unbeaten but could only muster 11 and nine points respectively while Ganaru’s Nasarawa United amassed 10 points for the month under review.
For the player’s award, Rotimi had to contend with Osaguona Ighodaro (Enugu Rangers), Ugwu Uwadiegwu (Enyimba), Emem Eduok (Dolphins), Julius Ubido (Heartland), Austin Ekpoma (Gombe United), Olayinka Onaolapo (Nasarawa United) and Nzube Anaezemba (Enyimba). The Dolphins custodian, however, restored himself as one of the country’s safest hands by keeping four clean sheets out of five games in August, including a penalty save at Sunshine Stars that helped his club secure a point and a clean sheet. Rotimi also conceded just a goal in five matches, exactly 315 minutes of league football, in August to be named LBA Player of August. Eguavoen and Rotimi will be given their awards later this month.
