Ewuga has lost political relevance-Nasarawa APC

Date:

From Ali Abare Abubakar, Lafia

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa has said that Senator Solomon Ewuga (PDP, Nasarawa-North), has since lost his political relevance and is no longer the political heavyweight that he was 15 or so years ago.

The party made this known yesterday in reaction to an interview granted by Ewuga in a national daily wherein he declared that there is no second term for Governor Al-makura.

Responding on behalf of the party, state Deputy Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Murtala Alhassan Lamus, dismissed the statement by Ewuga as a ruse, urging the lawmaker to recollect that the electorates in Nasarawa-North are more sophisticated than 15 years ago when Ewuga expected them to do his biddings.

“Since 1998 when we founded the PDP together, Ewuga has never won an elective position. Now that he is in the Senate, the people are assessing his performance and I can assure you he has since lost political relevance” he said.

The state deputy chairman of the APC maintained that contrary to the claims by Sen. Ewuga, Governor Al-makura has every right to seek a second tenure as guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution, stressing that it was surprising that Ewuga as a politician can make such statements.

He stated that even at that, it wasn’t Governor Al-makura that is muting the idea for a second term but the people of the state, who having witnessed the developmental strides recorded so far by the APC administration, are mounting pressure on him to seek re-election.

“Supposing it is Ewuga that is serving as the governor of Nasarawa state now and if somebody says there will be no second term for him, will he be happy?” Lamus sought to know.

On the claim by Ewuga that he provided the platform for Al-makura to win the election in 2011, the APC dismissed the claim as unfounded as according to Lamus, who incidentally also came from the same senatorial zone with Ewuga, the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) provided Al-makura with the platform and not an individual.
