Experts advocate review of technical education curriculum

n order for Nigeria to overcome series of challenges facing it in the area of science and technology, a call has been made on the federal government to review the academic curriculum of technical and vocational education in the country, to allow new emerging trends in the science and technology.

The call was made by stakeholders in the education sector, at a-one day forum, organized by Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board (OGTVEB), in Abeokuta.

Different craftsmen and women who addressed students of technical and vocational colleges, parents and stakeholders, hammered on the need to resuscitate the educational sub-sector, which is currently operating at its lower ebb in the state.

In his address, Governor Ibikunle Amosun called on private investors and other stakeholders to collaborate with the state government in achieving the goal of the board.

He called on well-meaning citizens, philanthropists and corporate organisations to assist the colleges through funding and donation of machineries and equipment.

Amosun gave assurance on the sustenance of existing rapport between the government  and private investors, adding that the importance of contributions of private sector to governance could not be underrated.

On her part, Chairman of the Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board, Mrs. Doyin Ogunbiyi, disclosed that the forum was organised with a view to resuscitating the near moribund technical education in the state, explained that developing skilled middle level manpower would solve the challenges of maintenance needs of industries in different specialties.

Among participants at the occasion are captains of industry, manufacturers, members of the National and State Chambers of Commerce and Industries, craftsmen and women as well as students of technical colleges in the state.
