The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has tasked members of the newly inaugurated Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON), to improved the quantity and quality of Nigeria’s Geo-spatial asset for national development.

Fashola  stated this during the inauguration of the 59 council  members drawn from all states of the federation and the FCT as well as some universities across Nigeria.

He  reminded them that they have been appointed to develop quality manpower for the prosperity and development of Nigeria because the success and productivity of any nation depends on quality human capital.
“Let me remind you that you are serving as manpower developers of the nation “.

“You are helping to develop Nigeria’s human capital, helping to prepare the next generation to take over from us.

“We have ton Look at how we can improve the quality and quantity of geospatial data that is available. Our marine water are going to increase, this are matters that directly connected to our future prosperity, security, happiness and development.

According to Minister  “the prosperity of Nigeria depends on quality human capital made up of people who have skills to formulate policies and implement same as well as proffer appropriate solutions to problems when they arise.

He said  that “government can vouch for the qualification of the members of the Council because they were carefully selected but their ego could not be ascertained by government and the same, must be tamed by the Surveyors to effectively discharge their duties and improve the quality of survey services in Nigeria,” Fashola said.

He told the surveyors that they hold an important space in their profession as they would rely upon your expertise to vet personnel into the field and reminded them that their place was to be fair just as they had expected years ago when they sought the favour of the Council.

 

“We know how important geo spatial data is now to the development of any society, the more you have, the richer you become.

“This is the importance of your appointment in determining those who will play in the field of developing and harvesting the spatial data to help on how life will be like tomorrow. It is a task of national building.”

The newly inaugurated President of the Surveyor, Clement Nwadichie assured the minister that the Council would ensure an effective, efficient and qualitative sector in the next three years as they assume their duties.

“The  Minister has given us a template of leadership, service, development of quality human capital and development of quality geospatial data for nation building which would guide their tenure.”
