FCTA activates N224m BHCPF for 504,000 women, children

No fewer than 131,000 women with normal deliveries and 373,000 under 5-childhood are topping the chart of beneficiaries of the multi-million Naira Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), as the FCT Administration activates the scheme.
It was gathered that under the health care service scheme, FCT residents are to benefit from services worth N224 million over the next 9 months.
Speaking at the launch of BHCPF yesterday in in Kuchigoro, Permanent Secretary FCT Administration, Chinyeaka Ohaa said the plan was to support accelerated provision of Basic Minimum Package of Health Services (BMPS) to all residing in the Territory.
He explained that BHCPF is an intervention by the Federal Government to improve health outcomes in the country. The bill was passed in 2014.
Ohaa therefore reitrated that the administration is committed to the delivery of quality health care services to all those residing in the Territory.
According to him, the scheme was activated, after the FCTA met all the eligibility criteria stipulated for the enrollment and operationalization of the fund.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Abdulaziz Abdullahi said the initiative was in line with the present administration’s commitment to universal health coverage.
Abdullahi said, In 2016, “we developed the National Health Policy and in 2018 approved the National Strategic Health Development Plan (NSHDP II).
“Both documents encapsulate our commitment to achieving UHC and the role of Primary Health Care as the bedrock of the health system.
“Our approach is consistent with broader national goals as espoused in the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) and laid the foundation for what we are launching today.”
