Worried by escalating security issues around the high brow area of Katampe extension District, Abuja, enforcement officials of the FCT Administration yesterday cleared shanties and disloged some persons living under the cashew trees in the area.

However, during the removal of unplanned structures at Katampe extension, one of the dislodged persons assaulted a female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)  attached to the FCTA demolition squad.

It was gathered that lower part of the left arm of the NSCDC officer (name withheld) was chopped  off by the angry victim of the exercise, who launched attack on anyone on sight.

Explaining the exercise, the Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement to the Minister of FCT, Ikharo Attah, decried the issue of extreme criminality occasioned  by the people in the area.

Attah said: “Whenever there is security challenge in the area, most of the things recovered are traced to these people living under the cashew trees, shanties and we can’t allowed them to stand”.

He reiterated the commitment of the FCT Minister Malam Muhammad Bello, in ridding the nation’s capital of shanties and all illegal structures on the road corridors especially in high brow areas under high tension cables.

Commenting on the attack on the NSCDC personnel, Attah, said the attacker was arrested and taken to Police station at Gwarinpa for interrogation and prosecution, while the affected officer, bleeding profusely was rushed to hospital for treatment.

“Attack on  the taskforce is becoming frequent, the security lady that was bitten by the other woman was very civil, and another woman bite her in the process of doing her job, but we will leave the Police to do their job. She has already been handed over to the Police”.
