Federal government has assured to provide Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) with the required support for the completion of all its projects and activities to enhanced its mandate.
The Secretary to the Government of Federation SGF, Boss Mustapha gave the assurance at Malale in Borgu local government of Niger state during flag off of cutting of tree logs on Kaniji and Shiroro Lakes in Kebbi and Niger States.
Represented by Umar Musa Gulani who called for adequate follow up as well as monitoring and evaluation and report back to government accordingly while charging NASS on oversight function.
Chairman HYPPADEC Governing Council, Joseph Terfa Ityav stated that about 350 persons died in 2020 through water navigation in the country, adding that the project is in partnership with National Inland Waterways Authority NIWA.
The Managing Director of HYPPADEC, Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa said the creation of the commission was due to ecological and environmental as well series loss of lives as a result of dams constructed years ago.
The Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Haliru Dantoro Kitoro 11, appealed to governments to continue to support HYPPADEC in enhancing its set goals.
