FRSC: FCT sector sensitises officers on modern public accounting

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), yesterday held its zonal yearly retreat for accountants in the sector, with emphasis on tackling modern public accounting challenges in the Corps.

The retreat with the theme: “Repositioning the accountants in sector RS 7.1 FCT to face modern accounting challenges, in compliance with international accounting standard in Public sector,” had accountants and officers in charge of drivers’ license centres under the FCT sector command, comprising of 14 units commands in attendance.

While declaring the retreat open, the FCT Sector Commander, Susan Ajenge, said FRSC recognizes the need to always enhance efficiency in the system through capacity building.

Represented by Sector head, Administration and Human Resources, Pauline Olaye, she said the theme of the retreat was good, and the participants would have one or two things, when they go back to their various units, and be able to do a train the trainers’ course, for their people, so that others might also be versatile in the system.

She urged them to feel free and ask the resource persons vital questions, so as to tap from their rich and wide knowledge in the field of modern accounting standard.

In his paper on Cash book and Bank Reconciliation statement, the Zonal Accountant, Usman Rabiu, said the retreat would help the officers be abreast with the dynamic world of public accounting.

According to him, it is expected that at the end of the retreat, accountants in the zone would not remain the same, as they would have gained more from what they were taught.

Some of the challenges have resulted to anomalies in the financial reporting system of the Corps, and there is the need to sit with them, so as to avoid future reoccurrence.

“There would be improvement of how the officers prepare their cash book, reconciliation and the system procedure, would be followed in line with the financial reporting regulation,” he said.

Speaking on the topic: Accounting system/ procedure in FRSC, the Corps Zonal Auditor, Vincent Ajibus, note the need to let the officers be well abreast with the accounting system in the Corps, as accounts system differs from one organization to the other.
