The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Osita Chidoka has warned motorists and the general public against acquiring fake driver’s licence
Chidoka stated this yesterday in Bauchi, while fielding questions from news men shortly after a meeting with stakeholders in state transportation sector drawn from the Department of state security service, Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), police and the military.
The FRSC boss stressed that the vehicle of anyone caught would be impounded in addition to the prosecution in law court.
According to him, people should go through the official processes and procedures and not through criminals who would produce fake licences for them,
“The commission has produced about 620,925 driver’s license for motorists in the 36 states in the country”, he further said.
Mr. Osita, who was represented by the FRSC’s head, Vehicle Administrative Department, Abuja, Commander Emmanuel Omotosho, said motorists that do not possess valid driving licence and plate number will have their vehicles impounded.
He said, “a criminal charge of possession of fake identity vehicle documents would be added to the offence of such a motorist and would be sent straight to court”.
The commander appealed to those intending to obtain the vehicle documents not to apply through dubious means but go through the normal process, though cumbersome.
“It is important that you go through the normal process and get it (driver’s licence); the normal process is cumbersome for some people; it takes time”, he said.
Omotosho disclosed that out of the 9,250 plate numbers that were produced for Bauchi state, only 5,855 were successfully uploaded into the National Vehicle Identification scheme portal at the national headquarters of the commission.
He noted that although there were difficulties in obtaining the new driver’s license and vehicle number plates, FRSC was doing its best address the resolve the challenges connected with the process.
