The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries ahead of the state governorship election.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the governor said the decision followed “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with family, friends, and political associates.

Fubara stated that although the decision was difficult, it became necessary in the interest of peace, stability, and unity in the state.

“Leadership is ultimately about sacrifice. There comes a time when personal ambition must yield to the greater good of the people. Rivers State is bigger than any individual, and at this critical moment, the peace, stability, and unity of our dear state must take precedence over every personal interest,” he said.

The governor expressed appreciation to his supporters for their commitment, prayers, and sacrifices throughout the political process, acknowledging that many may feel disappointed by his withdrawal.

He noted that his silence in recent weeks was “deliberate and strategic,” insisting that his actions were guided by the overall interest of the state.

“As our elders say, not everything a hunter sees in the forest is spoken of in the marketplace. Some truths are best borne quietly, not out of fear, but out of wisdom and restraint for the sake of peace and a greater purpose,” Fubara stated.

The governor further revealed that he had faced “immense pressures and difficult choices” but maintained that his love for the people of Rivers State remained paramount.

Fubara also thanked the All Progressives Congress for the opportunity given to him during the process and expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and encouragement.

He urged party members and supporters to remain loyal to the APC and work towards strengthening unity within the party.

“Let it be clearly understood that I stepped aside from participating in the upcoming Rivers State gubernatorial election not out of weakness, fear, or surrender, but out of conviction and sacrifice so that Rivers State may move forward in peace and unity,” he added.

Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Rivers State until the completion of his tenure.
