Galadiman Kano: Death of an icon, says Sen Gaya

The late Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Tijani Hashim has been described as a role model, an icon of peace and a bridge builder between the old and new generation of Nigerians who believed in the unity, oneness and development of the country.

Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya (APC Kano South) stated this in a statement signed by his Personal Assistant on Media and Strategy, Prince Idris Afegbua over the death of the Kano Emirate prince.

The former Kano State governor said that the death of the monarch was more painful going by the fact that the royal father travelled to Abuja himself before the cold hands of death took him away.  “His death is indeed an irreparable lost not only to his immediate family and the Kano Emirate Council but the entire nation,” the statement added.

The former Kano number one citizen said that the late Galadima was like a father to him adding that the death was a great lost because of the vacuum being created by his exit as his nationalist posture is unequalled.

The senator further said that death of Galadima has occurred at a time his fatherly role and doggedness on peace was most needed going by the trial times of the country approaching an election year. He said that the demise of the Kano prince was untimely as his tenacity on peace and tranquillity was most needed especially at this time of restive peace ravaging the north particularly North-west. Gaya prayed that the Almighty grant the soul of the departed father an eternal rest and the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable lost.

The palace source said that the late Hashim as Galadima, was the most senior prince in the Kano Emirate and in that capacity, was a heir to the throne of the emir’s stool. Our source added that the Kano Emirate was finding it difficult to announce the demise of the 79 year old monarch because the cause of the sudden death was not immediately ascertained as he was hale and hearty before embarking on the journey to the nation’s capital only to suddenly pass on.

Confirming the incident when contacted, Dan Maje Kano, Alhaji Munir Sanusi said that the death was unexpected but added that that is the way of all flesh.

According to the palace source, Hashim’s father was not an emir, but his grandfather, Abbas, ruled Kano from 1903 to 1919. Hashim was a regional minister under the late Premier of the north and Sardauna of Sokoto, late sir, Ahmadu Bello in the first republic.
