Tension is heightening within the All Progressives Congress (APC) following reports that former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has allegedly written to the party leadership, expressing his intent to join the ruling party.
In what appears to be a strategic move with far-reaching political implications, APC former National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Deputy Senate president, Senator Barau Jibrin, and Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Bichi, among other top stakeholders, are currently in a closed-door meeting in Abuja.
The meeting is said to be centered on Kwankwaso’s alleged defection plan and other pressing party matters, with insiders suggesting that the leadership is weighing the benefits and possible backlash of admitting the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) leader into the APC fold.
Kwankwaso, a former Defence Minister and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, has remained a formidable force in Kano and northern politics.
His rumored return to the APC, if confirmed, could alter political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Details of the discussions are yet to be officially released, but sources say the party is considering all options to strengthen its base and reconcile old rivalries.
More details soon…
