The Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development Hon. Asma’u Mohammad Iganus has expressed concern over the increase in gender based violence against women and children in Gombe.
She said the case is alarming and worrisome.
The commissioner made the stated this at the weekend in Gombe during a meeting with female political appointees and other relevant stakeholders.
She said it is mandatory to carryout the sensitisation campaign to end this urgly menace.
“Government can not do it alone without the support of the people. All hands must be on deck inorder to actualized the desired goal”, she said.
Hon Iganus who represented the wife of the governor during the meeting urged all female political appointees in the state not to relent to fight against the menace from local governments down to wards level.
She explained that a bill was passed in Gombe state House of Assembly earlier in 2022 with a view to punished offenders of gender based violence against women and children and there is urgent need to constitute a committee to handle the affairs of the menace from local government’s areas to wards level.
Iganus while expressing her feelings also show government commitment which she said the fight won’t be over until the menace is fully eradicated.
Speaking on behalf of the wives of the 11 local government chairmen, the wife of Gombe local government area council also ALGON chairman Mrs Ashaitu A. Sani in her remarks appreciated the gesture and promise to do the needful by encouraging other women to key into the fight against gender
