The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, will enhance Internal Revenue Generation (IGR) by leveraging the potential of the newly created Ministry of Livestock Development in state.
The Senior Special Assistant on Digital and Strategic Communication to Gov. Buni; Malam Yusuf Ali, made this known on Sunday, while an interview with our reporter in Damaturu, the state capital.
He said that the initiative is part of the state’s broader economic diversification strategy aimed at reducing reliance on federal allocations.
Yusuf Ali added that the governor has identified the critical role livestock development plays in the state’s economy. Adding that, with its vast grazing reserves and a significant population of livestock farmers, has the potential to become a hub for livestock production and trade in Nigeria.
“Governor Buni committed to transforming the livestock sector into a major revenue earner for the state. This will not only boost the internally generated revenue but also create job opportunities and improve the livelihoods of our people.”
He emphasized that, through the full-pledge Ministry, the state will invest in veterinary services, modern ranching techniques, and disease control measures to enhance livestock productivity.
Yusuf said, farmers will receive training, access to affordable loans, and improved livestock breeds to boost output. Efforts will focus on developing meat processing, dairy production, and leatherworks to maximize value addition.
