The Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, is set to commission a beautifully remodelled and fully modernised Damaturu Stadium – an ambitious project that underscores his administration’s commitment to sports development, youth empowerment, and infrastructural excellence.
In an interview, Governor Buni’s aide, Malam Yusuf Ali, said the ongoing reconstruction has transformed the facility into a state-of-the-art sporting complex designed to meet international standards, providing a conducive environment for both athletes and spectators.
Yusuf Ali highlighted that the key features of the upgraded stadium include a newly constructed guest lodge for visiting teams and officials, well-laid access roads built with durable concrete, and efficient drainage systems.
Other additions include a modern main gate and gatehouse to enhance security and aesthetics; an exclusive VIP section fitted with protective glass-covered seating for comfort and safety; newly built grandstands for an improved viewing experience; and a contemporary restaurant facility to serve athletes and visitors.
He added that the project also features a mosque and an administrative block to support spiritual and operational needs, as well as standard football and handball pitches designed for competitive sports.
He said the project includes a reconstructed and reinforced perimeter fence for enhanced security, and a fully equipped indoor badminton hall for all-weather sporting activities.
“This remarkable transformation is not just a facelift but a complete reimagining of Damaturu Stadium as a vibrant hub for sports and community engagement.
“It reflects Governor Buni’s vision of harnessing sports for youth development, talent discovery, and social cohesion,” Yusuf added.
The project stands as a testament to purposeful leadership and a lasting investment in the future of Yobe State.
