The Jigawa state governor Malam Umar Namadi has charged the authority concerned to improve hygienic environment at PHC facilities across the state.

The governor made the call while addressing Head of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Department of 27 local government councils in the state during disbursement of consumables and non consumables items to primary healthcare facilities in the state.

Governor Namadi, who was represented by his Technical Adviser (TA) on health, Malam Isah Surajo expressed concern on how some Primary Healthcare clinics and local government councils secretariats are dirty.

“The unfortunate things is that, they are dirty and in hygienic condition of some health facilities especially and offices in some local government councils secretariat and many other public places”.

“It is disheartening that when one visits some local government councils secretariat you can not sit down in some office, you can not drink water in that office so also in some medical facilities. It is your responsibilities to ensure and enforces good sanitary condition of that and everywhere of your respective areas”, Governor’s aid emphasis.

The Technical Adviser urged the HOD Water Sanitation and Hygiene to not limited environmental sanitation exercise to only last Saturday day of every month, “please expands your operations for environmental cleanest to all public places and engage heads of all health facilities in your domen and work together to achieve the desire objectives”.

“I’m therefore called on the HODs WASH that environmental sanitation is very, very important, it’s didn’t limited to monthly activity, to be done ones in the end of every month, it is every day activity”.

He noted that “that poor sanitary condition of such places and medical facilities especially can be risky all to inhabitants people particularly children. It is exposing them to so many dangerous communicable diseases”.

Malam Sulajo emphasis the importance and needs for personal hygiene through effective environmental sanitation, “environmental sanitation and hygiene did did not stop at our individual personal houses, it’s involved all our working and businesses places. This is important and necessary as we are spending reasonable hours in the places every day. So that is endangering our health”.

He therefore directed them to ensure they come up with more ways and means expands your operations and work with the PHC managers and ensure the clinics are in good sanitary condition as like your personal houses and rooms in such that a patient would not go in search of health and contracts more disease”.

“We knew there is enough environmental health workers at every primary healthcare facility, where there is need for assistance the Association for Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) and respective local government councils’ chairmen will gives all contribution to made our clinics clean and interesting”.
