The governor of Kano state, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has warned all his political appointees from involving in collection of palliative items distributed by his government.
The governor has on Monday flagged off the distribution of second batch of food items as palliative, including 52,800 bags each of 10kg of rice and maize to vulnerable people in the state.
Speaking at the event, held at the government house warned the distribution committee not to include his political appointees from against benefiting from the food items.
Governor Yusuf said the items are specifically for some identified persons, as such no political appointee should collect any.
The governor said he believes the gesture would not only cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal, and omliorate the hardship, it would also make the people stronger to continue carrying out their daily activities.
Among the distributed items, according to the governor, include “over 52,800 bags of 10kg rice and over 52,800 bags of maize across the state.
“I discovered that after the first batch, the people were looking forward to distribution of second batch of the palliatives.
“I directed that all political appointees should not be included in the beneficiaries of the palliatives.
“We are going to distribute 193,000 10kg bags of rice and 193,000 10kg bags of maize.
“ The palliative items will be shared to patients in our general hospitals, junior civil servants from level 1, physically challenged persons, widows of all security agencies, KAROTA, vigilante, VIO, Askarawan Kwankwasiyya, journalists, tsangaya schools, orphanages, Torrey home and rehabilitation centres, and beggars. We will go ourselves to distribute the palliatives to all nooks and crannies to the beggars,” he said
The distribution, according to him, is not only across the 44 LGAs but to also 484 wards and vulnerable groups within the state, adding that “each ward would receive 400 bags each of rice and maize.”
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Palliative Distribution Committee, who is the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Baffa Bichi, thanked the governor for compassion, empathy to the masses.
He explained that the state government had received 5 trucks of rice from the federal government but added 99 trailers for distribution in the state.
“Aside from the 150 trailers of maize promised by the federal government, which Kano collected only 11, the governor approved the procurement of 72 trucks of maize.
“The compliance committee is high profile and strong including reps and House of Assembly members, traditional rulers, and ulamas.
“Kano Central district will receive its share today. Kano South tomorrow and Kano north on Wednesday,” the SSG said.
