A grandfather, Sunday Oviasogie, was among 46 suspects paraded at Edo state Police Command yesterday.
The 61-year old was arrested in Ngwauku, in Tauroni local government area of Kano state, for allegedly buying over 100 stolen vehicles from a robbery syndicate.
Oviasogie was paraded along with three other suspects, Solomon Abuede, Kelvin Edward and James Monday.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Foluso Adebanjo, at a press briefing in the Command headquarters in Benin City, said arms and ammunition were recovered from the suspects.
Mr. Foluso said seven vehicles allegedly stolen by the syndicates working for the Mr. Oviasogie have recovered by police.
He listed some of the items recovered from the suspects to include, two Audi 80 car marked Edo: AJ 980 Uselu and BUR 123 XA.
The police boss counselled residents in the state on security tips on terrorism and safety, explaining that upon the conclusion of investigation, the suspects would be charge to court.
In an interview, Oviasogie, also known as “Epa’’, pleaded for mercy and clarified that he was inducted into vehicle theft twelve years ago.
The grandpa, who claimed to be father of six children told journalists that he was into the business to raise money to bankroll other undisclosed projects.
